Describes certain Series of 1882 National Bank Notes on which the denomination is printed in green on the back, spelled out, as FIVE DOLLARS, TEN DOLLARS, and so forth.
variety
A special feature of a coin’s design that sets it apart from the normal issue of that type.
vignette
Pronounced “vinn yet.” An ornamental or illustrative element of a bank note, such as a portrait, allegorical scene, or motif from history. For example, the Series of 1902 $100 National Bank Note bears a vignette of John J. Knox on its face and another of two men, a shield, and an eagle on the back.
