incuse

The design of a coin that has been impressed below the coin’s surface. A design raised above the coin’s surface is in relief.

Indian Chief Note

inscription

The legend or lettering on a coin.

Interest-Bearing Note

A note from $10 to $10,000 issued in the early 1860s, yielding interest to the bearer.

intrinsic value

The bullion, or melt, value of the actual precious metal in a numismatic item.

investment grade

Promotional term; generally indicating that a partiuclar coin wiill appreciate in value over time.
