Liberty with a bonnet, facing left, with 13 stars on either side and the date at the bottom.
Reverse Description
An eagle with wings fully spread with a ribbon above its head bearing the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM. The words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around the periphery with "2 1/2 D." written as a fraction appears at the bottom.

Designer: John Reich. Weight: 4.37 grams. Composition: .9167 gold, .0833 silver and copper (net weight .14131 oz. pure gold). Diameter: Approximately 20 mm. Edge: Reeded. Mint: Philadelphia.
Key to Collecting: This single-year type features the Capped Bust Left design by John Reich, an adaptation of the design introduced in 1807 on the half dollar. A couple hundred or so circulated issues exist, not super-rare in the context of early quarter eagle dates, but of special desirability and market interest due to the necessity of having a piece to complete a gold type set. Any specimen is an attention-getter par excellence! Only a few Mint State coins exist. These typically have nice eye appeal with great luster.
Aspects of Striking and Appearance: All examples are lightly struck in one area or another, typically around the rim.
