United Kingdom: New Gold And Silver Premium Bullion Coin Design Highlights Four Nations
The Royal Mint release a celebrated and admired heraldic coin design with the Four Nations 2024 Bullion Coin Range.
The Lion of England, the Unicorn of Scotland, the Dragon of Wales and the Stag of Northern Ireland are beautifully brought together once again with the four heraldic symbols of the constituent nations comprising the United Kingdom in one harmonious composition.
The ingenious design by Gregory Cameron first appeared on a circulation one pound coins celebrating the last ‘round pound’ in 2016 before the UK’s transition to a bi-metallic twelve-sided pound coin one year later. In 2022, an exclusive cupro-nickel proof-like ‘Four Nations’ £5 crown coin with limited mintage was offered to visitors at the Royal Mint’s Experience Centre in Llantrisant, Wales and is now a sought-after collector coin.
For 2024, the design has been subtly updated for this bullion release which divides the circular coin table into four sections, with the heraldic animals inhabiting each one and defending the royal crown at the centre. The design has also been updated to replace St Edward’s Crown from the original concept to represent the Tudor Crown, a representation of HM King Charles III. The precious metal specifications and year of minting are also incorporated into the design shown in micro-text and repeatedly placed around the entire rim. The obverse depicts an effigy of HM King Charles III, designed by acclaimed sculptor Martin Jennings. The denomination 25 POUNDS (gold) or 5 POUNDS (silver) is part of the legend surrounding the King’s likeness. The obverse benefits from a background of surface animation providing a security measure and an eye-appealing look when the coin is tilted under a source of light.
