Designers: Obverse: Gilroy Roberts; Reverse: Seth Huntington. Weight: 11.34 grams. Composition: Outer layers of copper-nickel (.750 copper, .250 nickel) bonded to inner core of pure copper. Diameter: 30.6 mm. Edge: Reeded. Mints: Philadelphia, Denver, San Francisco.

Key to Collecting: For the Bicentennial, a special Kennedy half dollar was made, incorporating the preceding obverse design, but with the curious double date 17761976. On the reverse appeared a depiction of Independence Hall in Philadelphia, a rather boring image no more desirable in its appearance than is the virtually identical design used on the reverse of the 1926 Sesquicentennial quarter eagle. Generally speaking, buildings shown on a front-on or plan view, without foliage, people, or other interesting things, are quite boring when used on coins. Witness also Monticello on the 1938 Jefferson nickel and the Lincoln Memorial on the 1959 cent.

Examples are as common as can be, no problem to get one just right for your collection. Circulating coins are plentiful but of no consequence to you, as Mint State pieces are inexpensive.
