The 1894 Liberty V Nickel comes from a relatively lower mintage for the series of 2,632 keeping it in type coin territory. Common without cameo designations except for the finest of gems. Cameo coins are a good bit scarcer with deep cameos non-existent.
Obverse Description
Lady Liberty with the word LIBERTY on her crown faces left with 13 stars around the periphery and the date positioned at the bottom center.
Reverse Description
Large V (roman numeral 5) is centered in the design surrounded by an ornate wreath with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA * CENTS * around the periphery. The motto E PLURIBUS UNUM appears near the top between the wreath and letters STATES OF AME.

Key to Collecting: The mintage of nickel five-cent pieces fell sharply this year, the aftermath of what some have called the Panic of 1893. Times were difficult, and many banks and other businesses failed. The coin market continued its slump as well, although George F. Heath and other proponents of the recently formed (in 1891) American Numismatic Association were endeavoring to stir up a lot of interest.
Mint State coins are scarce, and no-problem gems are rare. Many Proofs have problems, such as planchet flakes and lint marks.
CIRCULATION STRIKES:
Characteristics and Appearance: Most are lightly struck in one area or another. Luster varies, but is usually satisfactory. There were 41 obverse dies made.
PROOF STRIKES:
Characteristics and Appearance: Usually well struck and with mirrored fields. How- ever, planchet flakes, lint marks, and other defects rear their heads, with the result that really choice coins are in the minority.
Mintage and Distribution Notes: These coins were struck from at least two obverse dies, one with a repunched 4 in the date.
