Obverse Description

Key to Collecting: Reviews of the Susan B. Anthony dollars, sometimes called “Susies” by numismatists, are quite mixed. The public did not like them at all, and the Treasury Department found that these pieces were disappointing, as they did not take the place of paper dollars in circulation. However, numismatists generally liked them or even loved them, as the format was new, most pieces were well struck, and it became easy enough to form a complete collection of the different varieties made in 1979, 1980, and 1981. Then, unexpectedly, some more were made in 1999. Circulated coins are not relevant due to the plenitude of Mint State and Proof pieces.

Aspects of Striking and Appearance: Usually well struck.

Proof Coins: Very attractive, usually with cameo finish, and well reviewed by numismatists.
