The unprecedented crossover underscores his personal efforts to combat “grade inflation.”
Former presidents of the United States are honored in this series. Coins are only issued after a president is deceased in keeping with the standards the live persons cannot be depicted on a U.S. coin.
Obverse Description

Reverse Description
The statue of Liberty spans the design from lower right to upper left with a large "$1" in the right field. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA spans the periphery from 7-3 o'clock.
Book Reference
Designers: Obverse: See image captions for obverse designers; Reverse: Don Everhart. Weight: 8.1 grams. Composition: Pure copper core with outer layers of manganese brass (.770 copper, .120 zinc, .070 manganese, and .040 nickel). Diameter: 26.5 mm. Edge: Lettered. Mints: Philadelphia, Denver, San Francisco.
Key to Collecting: In addition to the regular Uncirculated or Mint State coins produced in large quantities, smaller numbers of Satin Finish dollars were made of the 2007 to 2010 years, Philadelphia and Denver Mints. In December 2011, Secretary of the Treasury Timothy Geithner directed that the U.S. Mint suspend minting and issuing circulating Presidential dollars. Collector formats, however, continued to be issued. Presidential dollars are very common in Mint State. Most have from a few to many bagmarks, with true MS-65 and better coins in the minority.
Some error coins have been discovered without edge lettering.
The Red Book Series: Modern United States Dollar Coins includes history, mintages, and other detailed information on each issue.
Aspects of Striking and Appearance: Most examples are very well struck. Check the higher points of the design. Special issues are uniformly sharply struck.
Proof Coins: Proofs have been made each year and are readily available. The 2015 releases (Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, L.B. Johnson) and the 2016 Reagan issue were also struck as Reverse Proofs at Philadelphia.
