Obverse Description
Liberty is portrayed, facing left, with cap on her head and the word LIBERTY on her crown. 7 and 6 stars on the left and right periphery, respectively with the date positioned in the bottom center.
Reverse Description
An eagle is centered in the design with a shield over its chest, holding arrows and olive branches in its talons. A ribbon above bears the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around the periphery. The denomination listed as "10 C." appears at the bottom.

Designer: John Reich, as modified by William Kneass. Weight: 1828–1836: 2.7 grams; 1837: 2.69 grams. Composition: 1828–1836: .8924 silver, .1076 copper; 1837: .900 silver, .100 copper. Diameter: 18.5 mm. Edge: Reeded. Mint: Philadelphia.
Key to Collecting: Examples are readily available in just about any grade desired, through and including choice and gem Mint State, with higher grade coins being rarer. There are quite a few on the market, mostly in lower grade ranges. Choice and gem examples are offered with some frequency, but finding an example with good eye appeal can be a challenge.
Aspects of Striking and Appearance: Generally quite well struck, but sometimes light on the portrait. Check the hair, brooch, and other details.
Proof Coins: Similar to other Capped Bust denominations, there are some nice Proof dimes in existence for the years here studied, but there are more than just a few deeply toned (deep gray, black, vividly iridescent, etc.) circulation strikes masquerading as Proofs. The entire field of early Proofs has many traps. Be careful.
