Obverse Description
Liberty is portrayed, facing left, with cap on her head and the word LIBERTY on her crown. 7 and 6 stars on the left and right periphery, respectively with the date positioned in the bottom center.
Reverse Description
The centerpiece of the reverse is the so-called "heraldic eagle" with wings fully spread and emblazoned with a shield replacing the chest. A ribbon bearing the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM hangs from the beak. The eagles right talon holds bundle of arrows and an olive branch in the right. Above the eagle's head are a group of stars and clouds with the words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA at the top periphery. The denomination of 25 C. appears at the bottom.

Key to Collecting: As a class, all are fairly scarce. However, these have never been in the limelight, thus creating an opportunity to acquire a scarce to rare coin for less than might otherwise be the case. As a class Mint State coins are very scarce. Most are in lower levels such as MS-60 to MS-62. Really nice MS-63 and higher specimens are rare, and gems even more so.
Aspects of Striking and Appearance: Striking is apt to vary. Check the hair details of Liberty, the star centers, and the denticles. On the reverse, the details of the eagle should be examined (but are often superbly defined), the integrity of the scroll or ribbon above the eagle’s head should be checked for weak or light areas, and the lettering should be inspected as well, not to overlook the denticles.
Proof Coins: Proof coins were struck in limited numbers for presentation purposes and for distribution to numismatists. Insist on a coin with deep and full (not partial) mirror surfaces, well struck, and with good contrast. Avoid deeply toned pieces (deep toning often masks the true nature of a coin). This particular range of Capped Bust quarters has many pretenders to the Proof throne, including some that have been certified or have “papers” signed by Walter Breen. Go slowly.
