The 1935 Texas half dollar represents the second year of issue for this long-running commemorative type that honors the centennial of Texas independence from Mexico in 1836. The coin was designed by Pompeo Coppini and features an eagle and five-pointed star on the obverse. Several symbolic elements on the reverse include the winged goddess Victoria, -- visage of the Alamo, and two cameo portraits of Texas republic founders General Sam Houston and Stephen Austin. The coin was issued for $1.50

Texas halves were made at the Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco Mints in 1935. Most issues were saved in uncirculated condition, and the majority of 1935 Texas halves are encountered in the marketplace between MS62 and MS67. -- rare handful are known in grades of MS68 or better, and premiums on such pieces often run into the five figures.
