This date sees a drop in mintage from its most recent massive mintage predecessors down to about 22.6 million. Slightly scarcer in comparison because of how many were produced. Although high grade gems are tough to find. This 1908 issue is the ultimate type coin.
Obverse Description
Lady Liberty with the word LIBERTY on her crown faces left with 13 stars around the periphery and the date positioned at the bottom center.
Reverse Description
Large V (roman numeral 5) is centered in the design surrounded by an ornate wreath with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA * CENTS * around the periphery. The motto E PLURIBUS UNUM appears near the top between the wreath and letters STATES OF AME.
Book Reference
Key to Collecting: This is another common-date Liberty Head nickel. However, most are in grades below MS-65. A sharply struck gem with good eye appeal is scarce. Proofs are among the most elusive in the series, but are usually of nice quality.

Characteristics and Appearance: Sharpness and surface quality can vary widely, but choice examples can be found without much effort.
PROOF STRIKES:
Characteristics and Appearance: 1908 Proofs are among the rarest in the series. When found, they are usually attractive. Pristine, undipped Proofs of this era often have delicate, bluish toning, probably from the tissue-paper wrappers in which they were housed when sold by the Mint.
