The 1840 10 Cents is part of a series of Seated Liberty dime coins struck from 1837-1838. The specific variety is No Drapery. Struck in Philadelphia and designated as a Business (MS) strike, this coin is made of 90% silver; 10% copper from a mintage of 981,500 struck.
Obverse: Lady Liberty is seated on a rock, holding a staff, and bearing a shield with the word LIBERTY on a flowing ribbon. 13 stars have adorn the periphery and the date appears at the bottom center. There is a noted lack of drapery (or linen) from Liberty's elbow to her knee.
Reverse: The words ONE DIME are centered and surrounded by a wreath tied by ribbon and bow at the bottom with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around the periphery.
