Defaced on the reverse by two impressions of a chisel, crosswise, intended to mark the piece as having been used for pattern purposes, and therefore no longer of relevance or value. This piece appeared in the Lorin G. Parmelee sale (June 1890, Lot 15), with a notation, “purchased in the Mint.”
