This is the famous silver half disme of 1792. The quantity struck is not known, and a popular estimate seems to be about 1,500 to 2,000. These pieces circulated widely as regular issues and today most exhibit wear, often extensive, with more than just a few in such grades as AG-3, G-4, to VG-8, often with a few marks or dents. Higher-grade pieces are seen on occasion, in EF, AU, and, rarely, Mint State.

Female head facing left, in the general style of the Birch cents and probably by the same engraver. Inscription LIB. PAR. OF SCIENCE & INDUSTRY around, 1792 below portrait.
Reverse Description
Eagle in flight with outstretched wings head toward top of coin, tail below. UNI. STATES OF AMERICA around, HALF DISME below.
