Obverse Description
The original design of Liberty, facing right, with hair flowing as if facing a slight breeze. 8 and 7 stars on the left and right periphery, respectively with the word LIBERTY across the top and the date positioned in the bottom center.
Reverse Description
The so-called "small eagle" motif is portrayed in the center with wings fully opened atop a small wreath of two olive branches that are tied by a ribbon at the bottom. The words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around the periphery. No denomination is mentioned.

Designer: Unknown. Engraver: Robert Scot. Weight: 1.35 grams. Composition: .8924 silver, .1076 copper. Diameter: Approximately 16.5 mm. Edge: Reeded. Mint: Philadelphia.
Key to Collecting: Most circulated coins are dated 1795. Typical grades are G to F or so. EF and AU grades are elusive. Probably somewhere between 250 and 400 Mint State coins exist, the vast preponderance being of the 1795 date. Although most hover around low Mint State levels, and others might be better called AU, there are a few choice and gem pieces around. However, in relation to the great demand for these pieces they are quite difficult to obtain, and the appearance of a choice one is an important numismatic event.
Aspects of Striking and Appearance: Many have problems of one sort or another, including adjustment marks from filing the planchet, and/or light striking in some areas, most particularly the breast of the eagle. It may not be possible to find a needle-sharp example, but with some extensive searching, a fairly decent strike can be obtained. In summary, a sharply struck coin is a goal, not necessarily a reality.
