The second highest mintage throughout the entire Liberty V Nickel Series at over 39 million struck making it yet another type coin. The 1907 is common all the way through to its finest grades. However, this issue is unique with regard to the toning that it is known for. Also its luster and eye appeal are stunning.
Obverse Description
Lady Liberty with the word LIBERTY on her crown faces left with 13 stars around the periphery and the date positioned at the bottom center.
Reverse Description
Large V (roman numeral 5) is centered in the design surrounded by an ornate wreath with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA * CENTS * around the periphery. The motto E PLURIBUS UNUM appears near the top between the wreath and letters STATES OF AME.

Key to Collecting: The 1907 nickel is a study in contrasts—common in circulated grades, and plentiful (relatively speaking) in Mint State. This year was marked by the Panic of 1907, which happened in the autumn. The saving rate of new nickels as souvenirs seems to have been lower than usual. Probably not related to the national economic situation, Proofs, most of which had been ordered early in the year, registered the lowest mintage of the entire Liberty Head series. Quality of striking and appearance can vary widely among 1907 nickels in both circulation strikes and Proofs.

Characteristics and Appearance: Most have nice luster, but striking can vary.
PROOF STRIKES:
Characteristics and Appearance: Striking varies due to multiple press runs, although the overall mintage was small. Sometimes these coins lack detail on the ear of corn to the left of the ribbon bow, causing it to be flat. Date low on die. Microscopic raised area at denticle to left of outermost point of the third star.
Mintage and Distribution Notes: Lowest Proof production figure in the regular Liberty Head nickel series.
