1863 Cent. Struck from regular dies. J-299 is a transitional issue usually seen with dies oriented medal-turn. Some thick planchet pieces exist and were struck for an unknown reason. Most examples of J-299 were issued with a bronzed finish of chocolate brown hue; all but one known piece are aligned medal-turn. Die varieties exist for J-299.
